The ancient Korean wrestling style and traditional sport 'Ssireum' was recognized as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by the UNESCO recently. The acceptation of joint application of two Koreas to obtain the inscription of their common traditional sport on the UNESCO's representative list has raised hopes for improved relations between the North and the South.

Korea is rich of cultural and natural heritages. The Country well preserves its' heritages for the prosterity while promoting them all over the World. The 'Korea National Heritage Online' is a web portal which provides comprehensive information on Korean national heritages including UNESCO World Heritages (World Heritage, Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, Memory of the World). The web portal consists of information including photographs, videos, 3D simulation vidoes, maps, etc. The website is divided into three sections: 'Learning' (배우고), 'Heritage Tours' (보고), and 'Cultural Experience' (느끼고). කොරියානු ගුවන්විදුලි හා රුපවාහිනී ජාලය (KBS) මගින් KBS History Portal (KBS역사) නමින් කොරියානු ඉතිහාසය පිළිබඳ වාර්තාමය වැඩසටහන් ඇතුළත් විශේෂ වෙබ් අඩවියක් 2015 ජනවාරි 1 දින සිට හඳුන්වා දෙනු ලැබීය. මේ හරහා ඔබට KBS මගින් විකාශය කළ ජනප්‍රිය රුපවාහිනී වාර්තා වැඩසටහන් රැසක් නැරඹිය හැක. ඓතිහාසික කාල වකවානුව (시대), භූගෝලීය කලාපය (지리), පුද්ගලයන් (인물) සහ ලේඛන (기록) වශයෙන් ප්‍රධාන ක්ෂේත්‍ර 04ක් යටතේ වැඩසටහන් වර්ග කර තිබේ. The Korea Broadcasting System (KBS) launched its' history documentary website 'KBS History Portal - 역사포털' on January 1st, 2015. You can access number of history TV documentaries there, mainly categorized under: period (시대), area (지리), persons (인물) and records (기록). Also famous historical soap-opera such as Jeong Do-jeon (정도전) and Yi Soon Shin (이순신) can be viewed. You may log-in the site simply using your facebook account.

Play Library at ACC Children!

Children are the future of our world. Having recognized the importance of children in Asia’s future, Asia Culture Center (ACC) has allocated one of its’ five major facilities for children called as ‘ACC Children’. It is considered the biggest culture space for children in Korea. As our children are living in an age of cultural diversity, ACC Children serves as a futuristic culture space by providing opportunities for them to experience creative, interactive and unique cultural activities through development of various contents that utilize a wealth of cultural resources of Asia.

Childhood is the best time to inculcate reading habit and love for books. However it has to be done systematically and carefully. Play Library at ACC Children is the best place for that. Today I will accompany you to the Play Library, a space which increases children’s creativity and imagination through a wide range of reading materials, educational programs and cultural activities. 
 

ACC Children Play Library is a well-organized library located in basement second floor (B2F) of ACC Children. It houses over 6000 children’s books related to various disciplines, and the collection spans from the arts to sciences. The texts accompanied by colorful pictures attract little readers. Books are classified into subject categories using Korean Decimal Classification (KDC), a library classification system used by about 70% of public libraries in Korea. The books are catalogued and are searchable via the computer terminals located in the library. I could see a mother teaching her kid how to search for a books through the online catalogue. This kind of exposure to a well-organized library from the childhood would train children in using bigger academic and research libraries in future.

 

When I visited there on a Saturday afternoon, Library was full of children of all ages ranging from toddlers to young teens. I could see a middle school student quietly reading on the floor. He said that he comes to Play Library on his own during weekends by taking the city bus. However, most of the children were accompanied by their parents. When I approached a father of two daughters of 6 and 8 years, he told that he comes to the library twice a month with children. Although the family regularly use the nearby municipal library, they prefer Play Library at ACC Children as it has a bigger collection as compared to other libraries in the City and offers various activities for children. By recalling his memories, this father told me that libraries during his childhood were merely reading rooms. He considers Play Library as a space where his children can play and rest while enjoying a range of reading related activities. 

 

Interior at Play Library are carefully designed for little minds and ensure the safety of children. Although it is located in the basement, adjoining open passage with bamboo trees still bring sunlight into the Play Library. Along with that, the wooden floor and furniture creates a sense of bright and natural environment within it. Play Library at ACC Children encourages the culture of ‘reading together’ or ‘family reading’ where parents read for or read with their children. This is known as a powerful tool motivating your child to read.

 

Play Library at ACC Children is not merely a reading space. It has various programs and activities to increase your child’s creativity and imagination. For an example, monthly reading themes such as ‘Animals around the World’ teaches students about native animals in various countries using visual aids such as images, videos and maps. At the end of the learning process, children make their own globe by drawing world map and painting native animals of each country (i.e. Pandas in China, Kangaroos in Australia) on it. Dozens of such globes are displayed on the bookshelves of the Play Library. Another program teaches children about ‘Hats in Asia’. Children can also try on hats of various Asian countries and the programs ends with creating a hat of a preferred country. These programs are facilitated by well-qualified Children’s Librarians with a background of child education. 

Most importantly Play Library is accessible to anyone, regardless of age or nationality, for FREE of charge! Therefore Play Library at ACC Children is undoubtedly the best places in Gwangju to spend free time with your kid in a meaningful way.

කොරියානු සංස්කෘතික, ක්‍රීඩා සහ සංචාරක අමාත්‍යංශය අනුබද්ධ කොරියානු සංස්කෘතික සහ සංචාරක ආයතනය  (KCTI) මඟින් 2005 වසරේ සිට පවත්වාගෙන යන සංස්කෘතික සහයෝගිතා වැඩසටහන (CPI) පසුගිය 2015 ඔක්තෝබර් මාසයේදී එහි දස වන සංවත්සරය සොඋල් නගරයේදී පවත්වන ලදී. සෑම වසරකදී ම ආසියා, අප්‍රිකා, ලතින් ඇමෙරිකානු රටවල තරුණ වෘත්තිකයන් සහ ශිල්පීන් සඳහා අමාත්‍යංශය යටතේ පවතින ආයතනයන්හි  (උදා: ජාතික පුස්තකාලය, ජාතික ජන කලා කෞතුකාගාරය, Kukkiwon ටයිකොන්ඩෝ ආයතනය, යනාදී) සයමාසික පහුණු පාඨමාලා සඳහා පුර්ණ ශිෂ්‍යත්ව පිරිනැමේ. කොරියානු භාෂා පුහුණුව, සිය විශේෂඥ විෂය ක්ෂේත්‍රය ට අදාළ පුහුණුව, සංස්කෘතික හුවමාරු, අධ්‍යයන චාරිකා ආදියෙන් වැඩසටහන සමන්විතය.

The Korean Culture and Tourism Institute (KCTI), affiliated to the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Korea organizes the Culture Partnership Initiative (CPI) program whichinvites young professionals and artists from Asia, Africa and Latin America for the Institutes (i.e. National Library of Korea, national Folk Museum, Kukkiwon Taekowondo Institute) under the Ministry since year 2005. The program celebrated its'  10th anniversary in October 2015 in Seoul. The six month full-scholarship program is consisted of Korean language course, Training on specialized area, Cultural exchanges and Cultural field trips.

කොළඹ මහජන පුස්තකාලයෙහි 'කොරියානු සංස්කෘතික මධ්‍යස්ථානයක්' විවෘත කෙරේ - 'Korea Corner' opens at Colombo Public Library

කොළඹ මහජන පුස්තකාලයෙහි දෙවෙනි මහලෙහි Korea Corner නමින් කොරියානු සංස්කෘතික මධ්‍යස්ථානයක් අද දින (ජනවාරි 27) උත්සවාකාරයෙන් විවෘත කෙරුණි. කොරියානු ජනරජයේ පරිත්‍යාගයක් වන මෙය කොරියානු භෂාව, කලාව, සංස්කෘතිය, ජනප්‍රිය කලාව (popular arts) අධ්‍යයනය කරන ශ්‍රී ලාංකික ප්‍රජාවට මහඟු සම්පතකි. විශේෂයෙන්ම ඉහත සඳහන් කළ විෂයයන් පිළිබඳ වටිනා DVD සහ නවතම පොත් එකතුවක් මෙහි අන්තර්ගත වේ. මේ දිනවල මෙරට ඉතා ජනප්‍රිය කොරියානු රුපවාහිනී ටෙලි නාට්‍ය  ඔබට මෙහිදී නැරඹිය හැකිය.

Dear Korean Studies students,

Korea Corner (a Korean Cultural Centre) was declared open at the Colombo Public Library with the participation of H.E. Jongmoon Choi, Ambassador of the Republic of Korea and His Highness A.J.M. Muzammil, Mayor of Colombo today (27th Jan.).

 

This center is established in collaboration between the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Sri Lanka and the Colombo Municipal Council with the aim of enhancing cultural ties between two nations. The Centre has hundreds of DVDs and books related to Korean language, culture, popular arts including Korean pop culture.

This cultural centre can be considered as a real asset to Sri Lanka and I really encourage you to get maximum use of it.

"කොරියානු රළ" (한류) කොරියානු භාෂාව ලොව පුරා ප්‍රචලිත කිරීමට දායක වෙයි

"කොරියානු රළ" (Korean Wave - 한류) යනු කොරියානු ජනප්‍රිය කලා මාධ්‍ය (ටෙලි නාට්‍ය, ගීත ආදිය) ලොව පුරා පැතිරීම හා ජනප්‍රිය වීමේ සංසිද්ධිය හඳුන්වන නාමයකි. එය කොරියානු සංස්කෘතිය ලොව පුරා ජනප්‍රිය වීමට ප්‍රබල ලෙස බලපා ඇත.

 

"කොරියානු රළ" හුදෙක් කොරියානු සංස්කෘතිය පමණක් නොව කොරියානු භාෂාව ද ලොව පුරා ප්‍රචලිත කිරීමට ප්‍රබල දායකත්වයක් ලබා දී ඇතැයි කොරියානු සංස්කෘතික අමාත්යංශය උපුටා දක්වමින් The Korea Herald පුවත්පත මෑතක දී පැවසීය.

 

ඒ අනුව 2007 දී 13 ක් වූ King Sejong මධ්‍යස්ථාන 2012 වන විට 90 ක් දක්වා වර්ධනය වී ඇත. තවද, එම කාලය තුළ එම ආයතනයන්හි කොරියානු භාෂාව හදාරන සිසුන්ගේ සංඛයාව 740 සිට 16,590 දක්වා වැඩි වී ඇත.

 

කොරියානු රජයේ වාර්තාවන්ට අනුව 1997 වසරේ විභාගය ආරම්භ වූ දා සිට 2013 වසර වන විට කොරියානු භාෂා ප්‍රවීණතා විභාගය (TOPIK) ට අයදුම් කළ අයදුම්කරුවන් ගණන මිලියනය ඉක්මවා ඇත. තවද, ලොව පුරා විශ්වවිද්‍යාල 840 ක පමණ 'කොරියානු අධ්‍යයන' හෝ 'කොරියානු භාෂා' අධ්‍යයන අංශ පිහිටුවා ඇත.

දකුණු ආසියාව තුළ කොරියානු අධ්‍යයන ප්‍රවර්ධනය (Promotion of Korean Studies in India & South Asia) යන මැයෙන් ඉන්දියාවේ ජවහර්ලාල් නේරු විශ්වවිද්‍යාලය, කොරියාවේ කොරියානු අධ්‍යයන ඇකඩමිය හා කැලණිය විශ්වවිද්‍යාලය එක්ව සංවිධානය කළ සම්මන්ත්‍රණය මැයි මස 30 - 31 දෙ දින කොළඹදී පැවැත්වුණි. කොරියානු අධ්‍යයනයන්ට අදාළව භාෂාව, සංස්කෘතිය, ඉතිහාසය, ද්වි පාර්ශවික ආර්ථික/දේශපාලන සබඳතා, භාෂාව ඉගැන්වීම, බුදුදහම ආදී විෂයයන් යටතේ පර්යේෂණ පත්‍රිකා රැසක් ක්ෂේත්‍රයේ විද්වතුන් විසින් ඉදිරිපත් කරන ලදී.

The 3rd International Conference on 'Promotion of Korean Studies in India & South Asia' organized by the Centre for Japanese, Korean & North East Asian Studies of Jawaharlal Nehru University in India and Academy of Korean Studies in Korea in collaboration with University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka was held on 30 - 31st May 2013 in Colombo.

The Conference was attended by eminent scholars who came from Korea & South Asian Nations such as India, Bangladesh & Sri Lanka. Number of valuable research papers related to Korean studies including language, culture, history, literature, bi-lateral economic/political relations, Budddhism were presented during the Conference. Fruitful discussions enriched the conference and future plans for promotion of Korean studies in the region were also discussed in length.

කොරියානු භාෂා ප්‍රවීණතා විභාගය දෙයාකාරයකින් පැවැත්වේ. ඒ සම්මත (Standard TOPIK) හා ව්යාපාරික (Business TOPIK) වශයෙනි. කොරියාවේ උසස් අධ්‍යාපනය ලැබීමට අහහස් කරන ඔබ S-TOPIK සඳහා පෙනී සිටිය යුතුය. මෙම විභාගය කොරියාවේ 'ජාත්‍යන්තර අධ්‍යාපනය සඳහා වන ජාතික ආයතනය (NIIED)' මගින් අධීක්ෂණය කරන්නකි.

PICTORI යනු කොරියානු ඉතිහාසය හා සංස්කෘතිය පිළිබද පැරණි/දුර්ලභ හා නවීන ඡායාරූප එකතුවකි. ඇතැම් ඡායාරූප 1910 දශකය පමණ දක්වා දිවේ. එකල කොරියාව පැවති ආකාරය, අද වන විට කොරියාව සංවර්ධනය වී ඇති ආකාරය රූපමය අත්දැකීමක් ලෙස ඔබට ලබා දේ. ඔබට අවශ්‍ය ඡායාරූප search කිරීම හෝ browse කිරීම මගින් සොයා ගත හැකිය. මීට අමතරව සිතියමක් ඇසුරින් ඒ ඒ ස්ථානයන්ට (උදා: Namdaemun market) අදාළ ඡායාරූප ලබා ගත හැකිය.

"PICTORI : Korean Media Library" is a project of the Australian National University's Korea Institute. The project is funded by The Academy of Korean Studies (AKS). PICTORI shares images related to Korean culture and history hidden in libraries & private collections all over the World. It brings both old/rare images plus recent images on Korea. Some pictures dates as far back as 1910s (i.e. Street view of Seoul).

It allows you either search or browse the collection. Also you can use a map to locate images related to a particilar place (i.e. Namdaemun market). Pictures here are subject to copyright and you can register to upload & download images. Images comes with metadata such as creator, date of origin, description, and tags, etc.

'කොරියානා' යනු 'කොරියා පදනම' මගින් 1987 සිට පළ කරන කොරියානු කලාව හා සංස්කෘතිය පිළිබද සඟරාවයි. ඉංගිරිසි හා කොරියානු භාෂා හැර තවත් භාෂා 09කින් මෙය පළවේ. කොරියානු සංස්කෘතිය, කලාව, ජීවිතය යනාදී විවිධ මාතෘකා ඔස්සේ පළවූ නවතම ලිපි අන්තර්ජාලය හරහා නොමිලයේ කියවිය හැකිය. පසුගිය කලාප වල පළවූ ලිපි මෙම සබැඳියාව හරහා හරහා කියවන්න.

'Koreana' is a quarterly magazine published by 'The Korea Foundation' since 1987. It targets international readers interested in Korean Art & Culture. It is published in eight (09) languages other than in Korean & English. It has number of intersting columns including:

- Focus (Recent cultural issues & artistic trends in Korea)
- Cuisine (Culinary culture of Korea)
- Living (Lifestyle of modern Koreans)
- Discovering Korea (Korean culture seen by foreigners living in Korea)
- Short Story Critique (A modern Korean short story accompanied by commentary)
